Page 1 of 2 The Harley-Davidson Foundation’s Milwaukee Contributions Committee recently awarded grants to several area non-profit organizations. The grants were awarded to promote programs in the areas of education, community revitalization, arts, culture and health initiatives. “This latest group of funding awards will help serve the needs of families throughout the Milwaukee area,” said Mary Anne Martiny, Manager, Harley-Davidson Foundation. “We are proud to partner with these great organizations as they further the reach of their important programs.”
The Harley-Davidson Foundation Inc. was established in 1993 to support the communities in which Harley-Davidson has facilities and employees. The majority of the Foundation's investments are in the areas of education and community revitalization with funds also supporting programs in arts and culture, health, the environment and national veteran's initiatives. The following Milwaukee area community programs were recently awarded Harley-Davidson Foundation grants: Artworks for Milwaukee - Arts-Based Apprenticeship Program Artworks develops projects employing apprentice artists, aged 14 to 21 years old, who work with local and professional artists to produce visual and graphic public works of art. Betty Brinn Children’s Museum - Family Focus Program Family Focus enables the museum to collaborate with social service and community-based agencies to provide free parenting education, Museum memberships and transportation subsidies to families who might otherwise be unable to benefit from the Museum's resources. First Stage Milwaukee - Traveling production of Ferdinand the Bull This lively tale emphasizes non-violence and tolerance for individual differences. It will reach 20,000 students in Southeastern Wisconsin during January and February of 2008. Milwaukee Repertory Theater, Inc. - In School Tour Experience In School Tour Experience is a youth-oriented production presented at thirty schools predominantly in the Milwaukee Public School System. Big Brothers Big Sisters - Site Based Mentoring Program The Site Based Mentoring Program provides an opportunity for volunteers to meet with their assigned “littles” weekly at a chosen school or Boys and Girls Club site. Activities at each site includes reading, board games, computer learning, sports, art, or just hanging out and taking. Boys Scouts of America - Scoutreach Learning for Life/Exploring Scoutreach Learning teaches positive character traits, career development, leadership and life skills to Milwaukee youth delivered in the schools and incorporated into the school day by their teachers. Boys & Girls Club of Greater Milwaukee - Safe Places Funding supports after-school programming at Milwaukee’s Bethune and Vieau Elementary schools.
